LiveEdge for YouTube (browser extension for Chrome and Microsoft Edge) — last updated: July 22, 2026

1. What the extension does

LiveEdge monitors YouTube live-stream pages and, when the player falls behind the live edge (buffer drift), automatically jumps playback back to the live edge and gently speeds up playback to trim the local buffer. It can also show a small on-page status panel with your current latency and open a popup with live session statistics.

Honest limitation: the extension does not remove the broadcaster's original transmission delay. That delay is created by the encoder and CDN of whoever is broadcasting, before the video ever reaches your browser. The extension only corrects the extra drift that accumulates in your local player.

2. Privacy — local data and collection

LiveEdge does not collect or transmit personal data to the developer or to third parties. To provide its features, it processes the current YouTube live player state and stores a small amount of operational data in your browser profile:

No analytics, telemetry, tracking pixels, advertising identifiers, or remote servers.
No browsing history is collected. The extension runs only on youtube.com pages and reads the current live player's state only as needed to detect buffer drift, identify a change of live stream, and display status.
Your settings (enabled state, check interval, buffer optimizer, panel visibility) are stored with the browser's extension storage (storage.sync). If browser sync is enabled, Chrome or Edge may sync them through your browser account. The developer never receives or sees them.
Local extension storage (storage.local) keeps, on your device only: the cumulative time-saved counter; a one-time interface hint flag; and the buffer cushion learned for each video quality, together with a timestamp. Learned cushions older than seven days are ignored. These records are never transmitted.
Live-session statistics shown in the popup and player panel remain in the page's memory and reset when you change live streams or close the tab.
Local extension data is never sold or shared. You can remove it by uninstalling the extension or clearing the extension's stored data in your browser.

3. Permissions explained

storage — saves settings, the time-saved total, interface state, and learned buffer cushions.
Access to youtube.com — required to detect the "LIVE" badge and player state, adjust playback, and show the optional player panel. Page information is used only for these user-facing features and is not sent to the developer or third parties.

4. Terms of use

The extension is provided "as is", at no cost, without warranty of any kind.
It is an independent project, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Google, or Microsoft. "YouTube" and "Chrome" are trademarks of Google LLC; "Microsoft Edge" is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation. These names are used here only to describe compatibility.
YouTube may change its page structure at any time, which can temporarily break functionality until the extension is updated.
You may uninstall the extension at any time; all stored settings are removed by the browser upon uninstall.
Donations are voluntary. The extension may display links to donation options (Pix and Ko-fi). Donating does not unlock features, remove limitations, or grant any additional service — every feature is available to all users. Pix payments are processed entirely by your own bank; Ko-fi donations are processed by ko-fi.com under its own terms. The extension never handles payment data.
